Right next door to the legendary Lyons Twin Mansions is the von Blücher Mansion. Built in 1886, this Eastlake Victorian Mansion stands as one of historic Fort Scott’s finest homes ever built. Now, as one of the Twin Mansions, this property may be enjoyed by all. Featuring 7 luxuriously appointed guestrooms and fully furnished with authentic antiques, the von Blücher Mansion is a true showpiece.
Step back to the late 1800s. Imagine a Victorian world set in a bustling Kansas frontier town, home to the United States Land Office. Hundreds came each day looking for a new home. The charm experienced in 1886 can once again be captured in the “LandMark Inn at the historic Bank of Oberlin” opened in downtown Oberlin in 1996. Listed on the National Register of Historic places, the bank has “re-opened” as a gathering place for local citizens and the traveler looking for a romantic getaway, meeting spot or reunion. The LandMark Inn offers seven guest suites, The Teller Room Restaurant & Coffee Bar and a vintage exercise room with turn of the century equipment, a sauna, and a unique gift shop called The Oberlin Mercantile Co.
The Glick Mansion and grounds came together under one ownership over a period of 39 years. George Glick who was responsible for the construction of the home, moved from Fremont County Ohio to Atchison, Kansas in the spring of 1859 with his wife Lizzie Ryder Glick, son Frederick H. and daughter Jennie. The Victorian Mansion was erected after Mr. Glick purchased lots number 6 and 7 in April 1873 for 950.00 and razed the existing structure. Mr. Glick was elected to the Kansas Legislature in 1862 and served 14 of the next 18 years in that post. Mr. Glick remained active in the political arena and was elected as Governor of Kansas in 1882 serving one term.
