Atlanta, Georgia Historic Accommodations Guide

Stonehurst Place
Stonehurst Place
(Bed & Breakfast)
Stonehurst Place
923 Piedmont Avenue NE
Atlanta, GA 30309
404.881.0722

Built in 1896 by George Burch Hinman for his growing family, Stonehurst belonged to the same family for over 100 years and so retains much of the original layout, features and hardware. A contractor and entrepreneur during the late 19th century, Hinman built textile mills throughout the Southeast and owned cotton gin and furniture factories in Atlanta. Purchased from the family estate after the youngest daughter Ruth's death at Stonehurst in 1996, the home was a bed and breakfast for some years. Barb Shadomy purchased Stonehurst in 2007 after discovering it while in England studying interior and garden design. For 17 months Barb and her team of architects and contractors, specialists in historic and eco-friendly systems, renovated and restored the home and its gardens to standards set by the US National Park Service, the GA State Historic Preservation Office, Southface and EarthCraft House. Stonehurst Place is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

HistoricStay.com Has Launched!

HistoricStay.com is a human-curated, invitation only

presentation of select historic lodging accommodations,

including bed & breakfasts, inns, hotels and lodges worldwide.

Historic lodging facilities (Stays) are demonstrably

significant to world history with respect to their architecture,

engineering, archeology or culture, as well as their location,

design, materials, workmanship, feeling or association.

Historic bed & breakfasts, inns, hotels and lodges offer

travelers a truly unique and memorable lodging experience.

They provide visitors a genuine opportunity to

connect with the past, while enjoying restful lodging,

excellent cuisine, gracious hospitality and more.

Sadly, countless historically significant structures

have been (and continue to be) lost forever.

Many of those that endure, do so largely because of the

vision, passion and dedication of devoted and enterprising

proprietors, companies and others, who (usually after great effort

and expense) offer them as living, interactive lodging facilities

reflecting the rich historical fabric within which they are woven.
